What are foam baffles?
Foam baffles are devices used to prevent sudden surges in fluids and can help control their flow. They also stop flames and protect against foreign debris, EMI, and environmental hazards.
Why would you use a foam baffle?
Duocel® aluminum foam is ideal for preventing sudden surges in liquids due to its open cell nature and the ability of fluid to flow through the material. By adjusting the porosity of the foam it is possible to control the fluid flow.
Who uses Duocel® foam baffles?
This technology is being used to provide environmental protection for the first stage rocket motors of submarine launched ballistic missiles. Fluid pressures are controlled to protect the solid propellant grain from underwater launch and seawater environments until the missile is above the ocean surface and is ready to ignite.
Pressure Drop
With our extensive knowledge of the pressure drop characteristics of our foam, we can help you determine the best porosity, compression, and material to fit your application. For generic numbers visit our technical data page on pressure drop.
