Heat Sinks

What is a heat sink?

Heat sinks are extended surfaces, such as fins or foam structures, that move heat away from electronic components so they can be cooled more effectively. Heat sinks may be used in natural convection (with no fan), forced convection (blowing air from the side), or impingement-style convection (blowing air towards the base plate).

Why use foam heat sinks?

Metal foam is a structure with very high surface area, making it great at transferring heat. Since Duocel® foam’s optimal height is lower than that of finned structures, it is an excellent option for space-constrained applications.
