Oakland School District Manufacturing Day
ERG Aerospace was fortunate enough to participate in Oakland School District’s Manufacturing Day on October 6, 2022. We were honored to host this well attended event.
About 50 students from local high schools toured our Oakland facility and learned about manufacturing companies in the bay area.

Oakland – Thursday, October 6 could
be the day that some high school students from across Oakland learn something
that helps them find their careers. OUSD is partnering with the City of
Oakland, Laney College, and the Association of Manufacturers Bay Area to send
180 students from seven high schools on tours of eight manufacturing businesses
on Thursday morning, October 6 to expose them to potential manufacturing career
options after graduation.
Students from each high school will visit two manufacturers in Oakland and
Alameda that create products ranging from furniture to parts for the aerospace
industry to underwater vehicles (yes, submarines). The businesses will
highlight their innovative work and teams (some of the businesses are hiring)
while the City of Oakland and OUSD will be celebrating the partnership that is
widening the pipeline from school to the business world. After the tours, the
students will have lunch at Laney College and tour the college’s Career
Technical Education (CTE) classrooms.
Media
is invited to see the businesses in operation, see the work that could one day
become students’ careers, and talk to young people about what this kind of
school trip can do for them. Leaders will also share how the City and OUSD are bringing
together important partners to create career awareness and employment
opportunities for young people.
The
students are from Castlemont, Fremont, Madison Park Academy, McClymonds,
Skyline, Oakland Tech, and Oakland high schools. They will arrive at their
first business at 9:00 a.m., then the second business at 10:30 a.m. Along with
pathway work that exists at OUSD high schools, this effort is paid for (in
part) by the College & Career For All Fund which Oakland voters created by passing Measure N in 2014.
